Ottawa Race Weekend

Last weekend was race weekend in Ottawa.  It’s grown to be Canada’s largest race, this year climbing to well over 39,000 participants in various events from a 2KM family fun run to the full marathon.  This race has such a great vibe to it.  Admittedly, I have a soft spot for it as I did do my first marathon on this course a couple of years ago. This year, I was disappointed not to participate as a runner (nursing an injury :( ).  That didn’t stop me though, from getting out and cheering on family & friends.  We were represented in each event!  My further consolation was making use of my registration and bib to get to the start of the half.  I lined up with my sister-in-law, elbowing into the corral, to run the first 1KM WITH my DSLR.  It was a good opportunity to get a unique perspective for shooting within, rather than on the sideline of the race.  Until next year!

….in gold.

Can Fund had some of its ambassador athletes in town this weekend at the Ottawa Race Weekend Expo.  Along with their hardware from Vancouver 2010, Olympian representatives on hand were Kim St. Pierre (Gold, Hockey), Tania Vicent (Silver, Short Track), and Marc Kennedy (Gold, Curling).

They were happy to share their stories, pass their medals around to try, and reminded us all:  ”Dream Big”.
